why sea rise is not even everywhere?
The title of this blog post is a question that I’ve pondered many times before. I really appreciate the information on that topic provided in this Washington Post article, Why seas are surging
As noted in the article, it is not just one thing, e.g., melting ice caps, etc. A quote from the article, “Sea level rise, however, is very uneven. Thanks to a complex set of factors, water levels are not rising at the same speed everywhere. And these factors have made the U.S. South particularly vulnerable. ‘There are many nonintuitive things that happen” as global sea levels rise.”
I know my own feeble brain could not figure this out, which leads me to an appreciation of science and scientists who have made climate change and other topics like medicine their life’s work. We owe much to them!
Eventually, and it may take decades, all people will come around to believing that nature’s forces are impacting where we live. It may take water lapping at their doorstep but like in the movie Don’t Look Up people will be confronted with reality.
