we are not trusted anymore

Watching the “drone news” over the past few months has convinced me that collectively, we are in deep do-do when it comes to “officials” and their messaging to an ever-increasing nonbelieving population. The bottom line is that we’ve lost the trust of many average people.  A common refrain of mine has been that without trust being established—what does that do to our disaster preparedness messaging or even worse, alert and warning messages. Clearly, the government’s assurances that “the drone thing” was nothing more than drones, airplanes, helicopters and stars has done little to allay the fears of many.

Who is trusted more these days? A woman who starts posting on social media accounts describing what she sees and interpreting it for the world, or official authorities whose mission is protecting the United States?

And, it is going to get much worse as artificial intelligence (AI) and deep fakes with videos showing things that are not true—but appear to be true, since we are viewing it all with our own eyes.

On that note, it is December 24th as I write this, so Merry Christmas! I’d like to warn Santa that some people could be taking potshots at his sleigh thinking it is a menacing object in the sky.  FYI, it is a felony to shoot at a drone or Santa.
