women versus men as active shooters
Another school shooting has happened. This one about 40 miles north of where I grew up. This time it was a Christian School, much like the Seventh Day Adventist school shooting from only a week or two ago.
The only “surprise” I had from this event, since they have become so predictable, is that the shooter was a 15-year-old girl student at the school. Which I could not remember any girl/women shooters in the past—from my memory bank. However, I read this today in the New York Times, "Young women are much less likely to be suspects in school shootings. This year, according to the K-12 School Shooting Database, nine shooting suspects were female compared to 249 who were male when gender was identified." I would not have guessed that there were nine.
The other “surprise” was that it was a second grader who called 911… [This report was corrected by the Madison Police Chief. It was a second grade teacher that called 911.]
This close to the Christmas holiday it will be especially devastating to everyone impacted by this event. Not only the families of those killed or injured, but also all the children attending that school and in the broader community.
