Haboob as a Hazard

The old goat is still learning! Today I learned a new term for “Dust Storm” which in today’s parlance is called a “Haboob.”

Denise Whisman, the senior emergency manager at Arizona State University did a Disaster Zone Podcast with me earlier this morning (that will air in August). She mentioned Haboob as a hazard that they plan for. It was a totally new term to me. See this YouTube video that covered one impacting Phoenix, AZ.

In turn I introduced the term Derecho to her. Think “straight line winds.”

Keep learning!
