climate change? what climate change?

Weather patterns are vacillating all over the world. I recall where jolly old England now has a thriving wine growing industry! And then today, Britain faces extreme fire risk through the weekend  Britain with a fire risk in April! Did you say climate change? What climate change?

Then across the pond we have the following policy actions:

White House ends funding for key US climate body: ‘No coming back from this’ This includes gutting the staff at US Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) who contributed to coordinating, organizing, and writing the new national climate assessment  that is due out in 2027.

I would point out one other side impact that is not just happening to ICF International which had a contract (now cancelled) to assist as the contractor for the climate assessment. They along with many other large contracting companies that have supported federal agencies are being let go as their contracts have been cancelled. This means that the personnel cuts you read about for federal employees are also rippling down to the private sector who had direct connections via contracts and then further into communities with large populations of government workers and those connected to government. Not to mention the dry cleaners, restaurants, etc. that will see business losses.

And, you know that should the political winds change in 3 years and nine months, you just can’t reverse course and come up to speed quickly. The above actions will have decades of impact on hiring, attracting talent and restoring faith on the part of people to “gamble” on becoming federal employees.
