Land Subsidence Could Make Storm Surge Worse

Land Subsidence is nothing new. It has been happening for years and not only on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Areas in the West also are having issues with subsidence as they continue to deplete water aquifers.

Now there is another study indicating that The Gulf Coast Is Sinking, Making Hurricanes Like Francine Even More Dangerous

In terms of bugle calls, it is time to “Sound Retreat!” That means, move back from the water’s edge since “the water” is advancing and all our man-made efforts to stop it will not hold back the ocean, no matter how many billions of dollars we spend trying  to prevent it from happening.

However, I do get the feeling that many will still try! Until bad things do happen, we can keep building on ocean fronts and don’t tell the new homeowners about the issue. There is money to be made in being dishonest.
