good hazard news for volcano

Usually, we read about studies that either identify an increase in hazards around a particular type of disaster or a new unknown, until now, hazard. More tornadoes, more destructive hurricanes, etc. We are starting out 2025 with one “good news” hazard story. See this Washington Post article, Will Yellowstone National Park erupt? Scientists have new answers.

The bottom line is that “in our lifetime” (is that my lifetime or a child just born today?) there should not be an issue with an eruption at the biggest of volcanoes, the Yellow Stone Caldera

The one word of caution I’d share is that with all science, it is subject to change. And one prognostication may not be the right one. Japanese scientists did not believe the Great Tohoku earthquake and tsunami were possible in the size and scope that it did occur.

Still, it is nice to start 2025 out with a bit of good disaster news.
