cuts to agencies have real impacts
I believe that the cuts to the former United States International Development (USAID), which eliminated it as an operational organization have real impact. USAID now has been sucked into the United States State Department and has a staff of 15. See this article from the Washington Post, Trump’s USAID cuts cripple American response to Myanmar earthquake
USAID was the agency that coordinated the United States aid to foreign countries impacted by disasters. With that agency no longer in existence, there is a huge hole in our nation’s ability to provide assistance to nations where disaster aid is desperately needed.
Unfortunately, it could be an example of what could happen to FEMA as the current administration toys with what its missions will be going forward. Rapid transformations of agencies with little forethought to the entire spectrum of ramifications is what I fear the most.
