homeowners hiring private firefighters

There is an interesting story in the New York Times about how individual homeowners and business owners have hired private firefighters/companies to protect their property, ‘Will Pay Any Amount’: Private Firefighters Are in Demand in L.A.

I personally have never heard of this being done before. These private companies normally contract with government entities for wildfire operations. Evidently, some will also provide protection to individual homes and businesses—for a price.

Once again it shows that those with money have the means to better protect themselves from losses. The first line of defense is home insurance, but for an increasing number of people—they are being priced out of even having that most basic of disaster mitigation measures.

Reference this last item. I overheard a woman speaking at a news conference in LA about how “they” (not sure who that was) were looking ways to help people who did not have fire insurance for their property rebuild. That will be a hefty price given the status of uninsured properties in California…and elsewhere.
