another take on fema reform
There will likely be hundreds of articles written about proposed changes to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). I came across this one in my Google Feed, Another viewpoint: Federal emergency management could use reform, not elimination As we have seen how there are many different types of media these days I did look up the publication where the article came from. Left of center to be sure.
However, I found the article to be accurate. Espousing that changes are neededto simplify the process of obtaining disaster aid for disaster survivors (no mention of states on that matter—but that too is needed). Basically, don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater by eliminating the agency or shifting all the disaster responsibilities for disaster recovery onto the states.
Once more specificity comes out from the council that is being put together to study how to reform FEMA, there will be a barrage of opinions pro and con. I do think there are many who prefer the “devil they know” rather than a promise of something new, yet undefined. We’ll just need to wait and see what is proposed.
